Filed in BlogFor quite some time now I’ve been trying to make it back to the Bay Area to pick up my mail and final paycheck. What with the cat being sick and miscellaneous bouts of poor weather, it hasn’t been happening. Don suggested we go today, and even though it was pretty late in the day, I figured why not. I told him we had to stop at Denny’s though. ;)
Well…brrr! It was about 2:30 by the time we got on the road and it was a 100-mile ride. I began to have my doubts when we got on the freeway and my fingers and toes immediately started to feel cold (gee, ya think!). We progressed, and turned onto I-205, and suddenly the low winter sun was full blast in my eyes. My extremeties were freezing and I pulled off at Mountain Home and said, “Not today.” It is one thing to ride in the sunlight, quite another to know that I would have been doing another 100 miles back in the dark and even colder.
Yeah, I wimped out. And I’m glad, too: as I write, it’s 41°F out, or 5° C, with a windchill that would bring us way below freezing–and chances are we’d not even have left the Bay Area by now. ;)
So, I’m once again a week from getting a new battery, and think I will just give up gracefully and mail-order the thing (if I’d done that in the first place it would have been here by now). We will make another assault on the Bay Area tomorrow, and leave a few hours earlier. That should do the trick.
And then I finally get to fill out those change of address cards. ;)
