The writing on the wall is written in ice
Filed in Blog, RidesI was rather surprised today. Laundry became unavoidable, so I schlepped my bag onto the rear seat, strapped it on with three bungees, and called it good. Only when I got on the connector road to highway 299 did I start to think, Hmmm.
It was two in the afternoon. There were glistening patches on the road in many places where the trees overhung. These patches were most likely the remains of this morning’s frost, which means that in the next month or two they’re going to be ice, which means that riding will be untenable.
I have to go up a hill before starting down towards Weaverville. On the upslope after I crested this hill, I could see more of that glistening thing going on. I think this was my first poke in the eye to my terminal optimism of, “It won’t be that bad.” Hmm.
I am very curious to see how this pans out. Meanwhile, I had a pleasant, if somewhat cautious, ride, my feet stayed warm since I finally found my woolly over-socks, and the surprisingly warm afternoon sun gave way to the triangle of Venus, Jupiter and the crescent moon in the glow of a sinking sun.
