The girl who goes
Filed in BlogAs I pulled up on my decidedly ratty bike to the post office, a lady waved at me and shouted, “You go girl!”
These little ego boosts are really welcome.
The sky is gray, overcast, unfriendly. The gunpowder clouds seem to be one big frown, and there’s something in the air that makes me feel “the weather is in a mean mood today.” All over the hillsides, clouds of smoke go up as people burn their trash piles or light up their wood stoves, little spots of warmth in the winter day. I wonder just how long I will be able to keep on riding safely, and feel uneasy. Cold can be counteracted, but ice and snow is something else.
It’s a day for keeping warm, huddling up, but a certain young lady that I care about has a birthday coming and needed her present mailed before it joined the fate of just about every other gift I sent this year, i.e. late.
The snow that was threatened for this week seems to have dissipated, and I don’t see any on the mountains either. I will continue to ride for as long as I can, adding layers as the temperature becomes unbearable, but it was nice to be acknowledged. I didn’t see any other riders today.
