Riding cures stuckness
Filed in Blog, Daily Photo
I find that in life I often get stuck. I get stuck in one particular task, or one particular emotion. I’ve also figured out that riding is the best way to get unstuck. There’s something about it that just shakes things–literally, in the sense of there being more bumps and rattles on a bike, but also figuratively. Usually, by the end of my ride I’ve gained some perspective and can either return to the task at hand without resentment or boredom, or can bring a different viewpoint to it.

Today I was rather bored. I’d been doing the same thing all day and had really had enough. So I asked Don if he wanted to do laundry, since it was piling up and yet would still just about fit on the tank with sufficient bungee-fu, and he was up for that. Part of the trouble was that it’s over 100 degrees here so the only comfortable place to be is inside with the air conditioning on; this is not weather for walking or exploring, but laundry was a good excuse to get out.

So off we went, two-up with our laundry, down lovely highway 299. The smoke has cleared a great deal and some of the views were visible. We got there, did our stuff, and then headed on back. Of course, going a little overboard in the supermarket meant that I rode back clinging to a bag of groceries that didn’t fit anywhere else certainly helped reduce boredom. ;) That notwithstanding, when I got home I felt much better, and I even had pizza too.
So tell me–do any of you ride just to get yourself out of a funk or stuck patch?
