Nice to just ride
Filed in BlogWe went and picked up the bikes again yesterday, and just set out for a ride. The trees are starting to look more bare now, and so are the vines. I’d forgotten how nice it was to just set out without much idea of a destination, not even a map. Don had his GPS but I tend not to use mine unless it’s for marking the waypoints of snarfs. I find it just one gadget too many.
We took a series of long country lanes to see where they went. One of them suddenly flipped off at a right angle to cross the levee, leaving us up high on the embankment with a fine view of the surrounding countryside. Yes, it’s flat around here, but it’s not boring.
I’m starting to get my bearings around here. I suspect that by the time I’m done with Lodi I’ll have visited all the vineyards and ridden many of these country roads.
It’s good to get to know a neighborhood.
