All of Morse
Filed in BlogMorse Road is a rural lane at the far end of Lodi, and since I lucked out on Freecycle it was our destination today. I had directions written down but didn’t cotton on to the fact that they were taking us the long way round until, well, we were going the long way round. But that was okay. Time for a ride! ;)
Rain’s coming again, so the sky was overcast and the air pleasantly cool. Rain or no, it’s spring, and flowers are popping up everywhere. We got down to Eight Mile Road where we stayed briefly in a campground when we first arrived here, and got stuck (well, it’s Lodi!) as a long freight train was blocking the road. They uncouple further up the track but they’re longer than the distance between the depot and the crossing.
After ten minutes of cars and even a truck doing u-turns and left turns, we decided to wing it and made the left. It was quite a detour but we found the road and headed on up it, counting numbers…the three thousands, the four thousands…the freeway. Oh.
Logic failed and I took us on another wild goose chase, this time heading round in a square and taking the other direction of Morse which sequed into another street–Golf Course or the like–without warning. Nope, that wouldn’t do. So, back we went, and this time we found a way across the freeway and found the rest of Morse sitting patiently on the other side of the freeway.
Freecycle mission accomplished, under the scrutiny of an orange cat, we continued down Morse to where it ended in a gravelly circle and a house. Its back yard trampoline was surreally covered in old plastic Jesuses and Marys, left over from Christmas.
Back we trogged, and the same orange cat watched us go.
