Last ride of the year
Filed in BlogWhat a beautiful crisp, cold-but-not-too-cold, day it was today. Everything seemed highlighted, carefully defined, with sharp edges against the kind of bright winter sunshine that California does so beautifully.
My last ride of the year was through country lanes and so into town. There, I took care of errands. As I packed things onto my bike after standing in line at a frantically busy supermarket, a lady took the time to make sure I didn’t forget the chips that I’d left in the cart, and then wished me a happy new year. That moment of kindness put a smile on my face.
I didn’t need to layer up to michelin-man levels today. That makes my range of motion better. I’d forgotten, almost, the sheer delight of a bike that starts when asked to. What a huge difference that makes to my sense of well-being.
It was a happy ride.
