Hawg Dawgs
Filed in BlogWe went to the post office, and then just kept on going. And going. And going. ;)
Hawg Dawgs (est. 2006 ;) is to be found in Valley Springs, on state highway 12. To find it, turn into the mall area–there’s only one–aim to the left, and it’s right next door to Starbucks. The menu, with an occasional spelling error and misplaced apostrophe, is posted in the window and has a decidedly Harley-Davidson theme.
The main offering here is hot “dawgs”, with steak, chicken, burgers or salad thrown in to complete the all-American diner style menu. Inside, the decor is a mixture of adobe orange and modern-looking retro black and white with pictures of motorcycles and a Sturgis beer light on the walls. Well used to American food by now, we split a burger (the cheese was 75c extra). It came in a metal bucket of roughly the same material as a milk pail and tasted good and juicy. Its accompaniment, a huge layer of home-made chips (as in potato chips), was both unusual and tasty.
My curiosity (and appetite) was satisfied. I noticed when I was at Starbucks the other day that most of the clientele did seem to be bikers, though this place lacked the grunginess and down-to-earthness of most other biker food joints I’d been to. On the other hand, I enjoyed my meal, and definitely recommend this place as an inexpensive lunch stop on a ride through Calaveras County.
