First ride of the year
Filed in BlogI went for my first ride of the year today, fulfilling a long-standing tradition of doing all the things I love on New Year’s Day. My route took me over to Camanche Reservoir, and as this is definitely a story that needs writing up it will be on Raven’s Roads. The sky seemed huge, laced with pure white clouds, and the roads were fresh and exciting.
At Taco Bell, a woman came up to me, soft drinks in hand, saying how cool it was that I rode and how she wished that she could do so. I told her about motorcycle safety foundation classes and this kind of thoughtful look came over her. I wonder if today I helped to hatch a new biker chick?
I rode a shade under 9,000 miles last year–and boy, is it a relief to be able to say last year!–8994.1 miles, to be precise. It’s much better than I expected, given the protracted and overwhelming nature of the move, but I suppose we did make many trips to Stockton and there was the long ride to King City too.
Today’s ride was 120 miles of sheer zen joy. There was beautiful scenery–even snow and mountains–and a real sense of touching base with my spirit. I feel rusty–I need to get back into the heart of my riding, to have more confidence in cornering. There were many curves today. Riding is a great way to start a New Year, and if there is to be more like this, 2008 will shape up just delightfully.
