De-cobwebbed
Filed in BlogYesterday Don and I went on a dash–to the Bay Area. The planets aligned, both of us were out of bed on the early side (before noon), and we were heading out the door around eleven.
We went more or less straight there, heading over the Delta for a bit of scenic goodness (no use at night, when the winds are strong). We got to Sunnyvale, and picked up vast quantities of mail. I mean vast. My p.o. box had gotten stuffed and they were keeping the rest in back. ;) Then we swung by our old home, which I’d really rather we hadn’t. Seeing my home physically gone, and the deck taken away and all my beautiful jasmine, with the shed standing forlorn guard, just made me cry.
We picked up some bits and bobs in Fry’s, so voice over IP may be in our future. Don bought chocolates, which apparently are advent chocolates and to be distributed one a day while they last no matter how much I wag my tail. ;)
Last errand of this flying visit to an area which isn’t home any more was to pick up my final paycheck from the shop, drop off a book I promised one of the workers there, and realize that I don’t belong there any more. Not at the company, not in the Bay Area. The traffic sucks and I couldn’t wait to get away.
We were back on the road around three, hoping to miss the worst of the Christmas traffic. I used to hate riding in Silicon Valley around Christmas, with all the distracted drivers and the bad weather. Well, we missed the worst of it, but we didn’t miss it by a long shot. There was lane splitting in our future, especially around Livermore. There is something about Livermore that just gets all gnarled up, which is weird, because it’s not that big.
Around Tracy my blood sugar was getting low and my bladder was getting full so we filled up with cheap gas and then headed over to the fast food joint opposite. After that, I was miraculously able to ride rapidly and accurately and we made good time, arriving home at six.
Tired? Yes. De-cobwebbed? Hoo yeah. :)
