With a bit of luck, and the wind dying down some, tomorrow I should be hopping on Don’s bike and riding it up with the RV back home. Don’s bike is so amusingly too big for me that we’ll need to take off the seat and replace it with some thick towels instead, so I can’t imagine we’ll make the 250-mile trek in one go. Since the bike, a Honda Magna V65, goes like shit off a hot shovel, I’ve threatened to take a book along and wait for Don at every rest area. They’re spaced at roughly 30 mile intervals once you get just north of Sacramento on I-5. ;)

I haven’t ridden a bike for two months now. It’s the longest I’ve been bikeless since I first started riding in 1996. I’m not at all worried that I’m rusty or have forgotten how. I’m not entirely thrilled with not being able to get my feet fully down, but I know I’m experienced enough to cope…so long as we don’t get stuck behind something ludicrously slow on 299, in which case the probability of falling over rather increases. ;)

I’m glad that I have good, warm bike gear. Winter is here in the Delta already and it’ll be even more advanced up north. I hear that the first snows are already falling at around 7000′ (rather a lot higher than the altitudes I’ll be tackling). We’ll take it easy and be careful. Whether I can update from the way up remains to be seen, but I should be able to at least note that I arrived safely. And really, I do expect to arrive safely. It’s just a matter of time.
