Blue skies for Stockton
Filed in BlogThe most startling blue skies appeared today, puffed over with little white cotton-wool clouds. I had another errand to run in Stockton, so for the second time I headed out, this time trying to get away with taking rural roads. That was nice for the first few miles, but then I discovered that the whole area south of here was just one big long block of suburbia. Fun while it lasted, though.
After suburbia came Stockton proper–chain stores, mostly, and busy wide streets. Where I needed to be, though, was good old gang-land, as evidenced by the heavy shutters and razor wire of Cherokee RV. I went in, got my part, and came out again to play tag with a Harley rider who didn’t seem to want to go at the speed limit or in fact ride in much of a straight line as his bike popped and farted along the way. He did chat to me at an intersection, though, wanting to know if I was warm. I sure was. :)
Back in Lodi, I took some back ways to see where they went, and finally got my fill of mother nature in the grid of country lanes surrounding the town. The colors were brighter and the fields perking up: another month, and this place will be green, green, green.
These little rides around town are lovely, getting to know a new place and learning all the sneaky back ways. There isn’t much by way of commute here, but even so you can avoid what little there is by taking a road with some stop signs.
I’m pretty happy with this new place of ours.
