I am with battery :)
Filed in Motorcycle MaintenanceThe battery arrived on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve it was too cold to install it. On Christmas Day not only was it too cold, I didn’t get out of bed until 2:30 and then there were presents, and then it was, abruptly, dark. Today, Boxing Day, I decided that I had two choices: install the new battery while it was cold and dry, or wait until it was warmer…and raining.
Hmmm. Decisions, decisions. ;)
I put on layers and did the deed. Having had much practice over the last month or two, I actually knew what I was doing:
- Remove the cover (unscrew two screws with a Phillip’s screwdriver)
- Disconnect the positive terminal (requires a 7/16″ socket and open-end wrench)
- Disconnect the negative terminal (ditto)
- Remove the two bolts that hold the battery case on (requires a 10mm open-end wrench)
- Move hand away very quickly (the battery holder’s bottom swings open and the battery drops right out–onto your camera, fingers or whatever else you had under there at the time)
- Install battery
- Reverse the above steps.
The bike started right up, and I immediately thought of an excuse to go downtown wearing a t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket with liner, scarf, jeans, over-pants, two pairs of socks and boots. It was very windy–enough to move my bike around on the road–but oh-so-exhilarating and fun to once again have a bike with a trustworthy battery.
Yay!
